What is Moissanite?

What is Moissanite?

Simply put, moissanite is a lab-created gemstone.

French chemist Henri Moissan discovered the stone in 1893—and it had otherworldly origins, which he was soon to discover. Upon discovery, Moissan thought he’d found diamonds. Not quite. He’d found silicon carbide, more eloquently known asmoissanite

While nearly all moissanite today is created in a lab to ensure absolute perfection, Moissan’s discovery occurred in an Arizona meteorite crater. It quite literally fell from the stars! The historic meteorite crash brought natural moissanite from outer space.

These attractive stones offer brilliance from every angle that will catch eyes everywhere you go. A moissanite engagement ring is quite the showstopper—because these gemstones offer brilliance more radiant than diamonds.

At Valerie Madison, we only carry moissanite that has been cut for maximum brilliance to ensure its inner beauty will sparkle and shine through any weather. Below, we’ll detail the benefits of moissanite and offer a side-by-side comparison of diamonds and moissanite.

Benefits of Moissanite

This stone is loved by many modern millenial couples for a few key reasons:

  • Unsurpassed brilliance. If you want a stone with a flashy sparkle that will dazzle with radiance unmatched by diamonds, moissanite is your stone. In fact, its light dispersion is more than twice that of diamonds—meaning you’ll steal a glance everywhere you go.
  • Exceptional value. Compared to diamonds of identical size, moissanite costs a fraction of the price. Want the bigger sparkle of a bigger stone for a brilliant value? Choose moissanite, and your aspirations for a large, luxurious center stone are possible or opt for something more minimal and have more to spend on a vacation, down-payment, or starting your life together.
  • Socially responsible.Since nearly all moissanite is grown in a lab, its creation requires no mining, and you’ll always know the origin of your stone. Moissanite offers an attractive, environmentally-conscious alternative to mined gemstones and diamonds.

With moissanite, you can have it all: a colorless stone, unmatched brilliance, your preferred size at an affordable cost, and a guarantee of your stone’s origin.
